Breast Cancer Survivor Scrapbook

My cancer journey has introduced me to a lumpectomy, radiation, bilateral mastectomy, and last but not least, several rounds of very harsh chemotherapy. Although some people’s journeys will be different than mine, very unique and different from everyone else’s, yet many will be very similar to those who have traveled the cancer highway. No matter if you’re 17, 57, or 100, you have hopes, dreams, tears, and obstacles to overcome along the journey. More...

3 - Time Winner In My Battle With Breast Cancer

In January 2003, at the age of 51 I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I had regular breast exams and mammograms; however, my lump did not show up.  I found it myself.  I spent 9 months of the year being treated. I underwent 3 surgeries; had 4 treatments of chemo and 30 treatments of radiation.  I used herbs to offset the reactions to the treatments.  I constantly prayed and stood on God's word.  I did not become ill and continued to work.  To everyone's surprise I actually gained 30 lbs.   Guard your gates, believe and stand on the word of God.  Just because it  happened to someone else, doesn't mean it has to happen to you.  Your attitude has a lot to do with your recovery. God Bless You!

I am a cancer survivor, six months in remission. I was getting ready to turn 33 when I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I was already an avid scrapbooker, so I vowed to create a survivor book as therapy. I have some scary pictures, from no hair, to wigs, to the race for a cure. I am proud of my accomplishments and my 7 and 4 year old children will be able to show their children how strong our family was.

April, 2001, I was seeing a doctor that wouldn't give me a mammogram...how stupid, I'm over 40 and I felt a lump. So I quickly got another doctor, and got a mammogram and sure enough, I had breast cancer in my left breast. I was stunned to say the least. More...

I am going to be alright.

On August 3, 2001, I went for my annual gynecological examination and mammogram. All my life my Pap smears had come back normal as had my mammograms, I had no reason to think that this time it would be different. The Pap smear turned out normal, but when I went for the mammogram, the suddenly got out new pieces of equipment I'd never seen before, saying "...there are three spots in your right breast, they're probably calcium deposits." On January 20, 2003 my mother, Dixie Olinger, went into the hospital to have a lump removed that had been there for at least a year. Her doctor then seemed to not be worried about it, even after my mother had told him that it ran in the family. Her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago, and is still with us. We thank God every day. My mother switched doctors and had a lump removed. More...
